Megan Ferris, Wedding & Events Coordinator at The Busby Hotel

“I’ve been at Manorview for 11 years, and I love forming new relationships with every single couple and bringing their dream day to life. I also enjoy working closely with the team at The Busby, who are an amazing support to our couples and to me. And the variety I experience in my role is great too.

Like any role, there are ups and downs. There can be challenges within the wedding industry, pressures to deliver, and it can be difficult balancing all the tasks you need to deliver. There’s also no room for error planning a couples big day!

But working here, you get the benefit of positive team spirit within the wider Manorview team, meaning you get encouragement, determination to succeed, and an infectious work ethic! There’s also continuous investment in the sales process and showround delivery – for example our venues have dedicated décor, and we enhance sales appointments with food, drink and gifts for couples. We’re given tools to excel in our role and enjoy great support from a wider team.

I’ve had external sales training and workshops which have been super informative and helpful in my role, and have also participated in a bespoke leadership programme called Manorview Mindset.

I think to excel in a wedding and events role at Manorview, you need to be organised, efficient and able to work at pace. Good communication skills are a must have – and you’ll fit in if you’re enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming.

If you’re thinking of applying – go for it! If you join us, just give it your all. Work closely with your team, be an active listener, and set mini goals for yourself so you can focus on achieving them.”

Kerry-Ann Pounder, Wedding & Events Sales Manager at Lynnhurst Hotel

“I’ve been working in wedding and events for 20 years and joined Manorview just over a year ago. I love that no two couples or events are the same, so you meet new people on a near daily basis. Helping someone create the day they’ve been dreaming of is amazing – I love to offer my experience and knowledge to make planning smoother for them.

Anyone who’s done this role understands that sometimes it can feel like you’re drowning in admin! Emails, appointments, phone calls. But we are lucky to have central wedding and events team (who work across all Manorview venues) meaning we are never alone. It’s also hard to handover responsibility when you’ve spent so long with a couple – but I trust the hotel and operations team here, they’ll run the wedding to the best of their ability, and our couples will have a great day.

At Manorview you don’t just get a great team, but a great venue. Each venue has their own style, so we have a unique venue for every couple. Although you might be the only coordinator in your venue, you’ll work closely with the other Manorview wedding and event pros – so you can motivate each other, bounce ideas and collaborate.

I think you need to be well organised and be able to multi-task effectively in this role. And it helps to be good at problem solving, because no matter how much you plan, something will come up!

If you’re thinking of applying – go for it and be open minded! What have you got to lose? You’ll work in a beautiful venue with a great team.”

Katrine Codona, Wedding & Events Coordinator, Boclair House

“As a people person, the best part of my role is meeting our new couples – whether they are seeing the venue for the first time or returning for an appointment.

Hospitality is an ever-changing industry, and every wedding and day can be different here. Things can change at the drop of a hat that are out of your control – and that can be challenging. But we have a good dynamic team here, who work well together, this always gets me through and I’m lucky to be part of that.

A positive team ethos is so important to me, and that’s what I get at Manorview. I’ve also had lots of opportunities during my 8 years of being here. From training and education to team bonding exercises and the chance to participate in fundraising challenges for our charity, Manorview Foundation. There are always plenty opportunities here – and you can take advantage of as many as you wish. Support and advice for career progression is always there.

You’ll feel at home here if you’re a good communicator, team player and someone who is outgoing and sociable. You should absolutely apply if you’re thinking about it! It’ll be great to have someone new join our team.”

Laura Lockhart, Wedding & Events Manager, Cornhill Castle

“The greatest aspect of what we do is assisting couples in planning their dream day! Being part of their wedding journey and witnessing the joy gives me and our team such a sense of achievement and pride.

Of course there will always be challenges! For example, sometimes we’re tight on availability – especially with a recent shift in people booking weddings that aren’t too far away. But we have the right tools and autonomy to overcome any challenges we get.

Our venues really are exceptional, and we take great pride in working in them. The teams across all Manorview venues are good at coming together, offering unwavering support to one another. We’re very close and meet on a weekly call as well as an in person meeting monthly. We share our struggles and how we’ve overcome them, and this really helps.

I was also lucky enough to participate in the Manorview Mindset training, which has helped me develop as a leader. A positive mindset is so critical for our role – because you have to navigate stressful situations while ensuring a positive and memorable experience for couples. Giving the demanding nature of our job, this positive outlook is essential and helps us build trust with couples.

It also helps to be resilient in this role. There are unexpected situations that pop up any time! But with resilience you can see these as minor hiccups rather than day-ruining obstacles! It’s good if you can provide a calming influence, as weddings can be high stress situations. Being able to manage difficult people and situations is also a must. If you’re thinking of applying – do it! You will not regret it!”
