The Busby Team’s Local Picks

Rouken Glen Country Park

This is one of our favourite places to clear the head. Rouken Glen Country Park is a historic 58-hectare (143-acre) park with a story stretching back to around 1530. Pack a picnic, wrap up warm, and take a slow wander through the grounds. It’s a lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon.

Highlights: Scenic woodland walks, a tranquil boating pond, a picturesque waterfall, and an extensive walled garden.

Drive Time: Roughly 5–10 minutes by car from the hotel (approx. 3 miles).

Greenbank Garden

Less than two miles from the hotel, Greenbank Garden is cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. It’s a calm, beautifully tended escape that we recommend to guests who like to slow down and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Opening Times: Typically open daily (10:00 AM – 4:30 PM), with last entry for the Garden being 16:00. The cafe shuts at 17:00, with last orders at 16:30. Please note the Gardens close from 1 Nov–28 Feb for winter.

Admission: A £10 admission fee applies as standard for the National Trust for Scotland (members go free).

Pollock Country Park

Pollok Park is a short drive from the hotel, at around 20 minutes. It offers plenty of open space to stretch your legs, and with the newly refurbished Burrel Collection it makes for a fun and rewarding day out.

Key Features: Home to the world-famous Burrell Collection (free to enter), resident Highland cattle herds, and extensive woodland and riverside walking trails.

Drive Time: Approximately 15–20 minutes north via local routes.

Top Attractions Near Clarkston

Whitelee Wind Farm
Within a 20-minute drive of the hotel, Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre is a popular choice for guests who want to see some of the scenic countryside around Glasgow or those who have a strong interest in Green Energy. It’s a great option for a fresh-air outing before returning to the hotel for a relaxed evening.

Hampden Stadium
We’re only 10 minutes from Hampden Park by car (or via a direct train connection from Busby to Mount Florida / Kings Park). As Scotland’s national stadium, it’s exceptionally easy to get there for a major football match or music concert and straight back to a comfortable room afterwards.

You can also visit the on-site Scottish Football Museum, which details the history of Scotland’s national football team and our country’s historic obsession with football. A great day out for football lovers.
